CONVIC
ESTABLISHED 1998
MARGARET RIVER, WESTERN AUSTRALIA
World leading skate park designers Convic are industry innovators. Overseeing all aspects of the delivery process including consultation, design, construction and activation, the majority of CONVIC’s staff are also skaters or come from a skating background. Pushing concrete’s versatility, the free-form sprayed concrete process Convic employ allows for the seamless smooth curves and good transitions. Once the foundations are set, the coloured or grey concrete is sprayed in situ, a process that is comparatively environmental compared to transiting and constructing out of pre-cast.. The concrete is then shaped and burnished by hand to give it a durable and lustrous finish, and cured with a protective sealer.
Margaret River Youth Precinct, 2018
Margaret River, Western Australia
When the Margaret River Youth Precinct was first built by Convic in 1999, it set the standards for skate parks across Western Australia. It is fitting that Convic were invited back nearly 20 years later to creatively develop and expand upon the original park.
CONVIC’s major design influence was Margaret River’s strong surf culture and family feel. The park has now burgeoned to a 6,100m2 community destination. Focusing on community, youth and action sports, the precinct welcomes all ages and users—active or passive. In addition to the skate bowls and parkour areas, there are picnic and BBQ facilities, a performance and spectator area, lawn and garden landscape zones and ample shaded seating.
